Matting Policy

In accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2006, we will not intentionally cause pain, suffering or injury to a dog. Therefore, in some cases where severe matting has occurred, we will not subject the dog to extensive dematting or brushing and may have to make the decision to shave a coat.

Matted coats can cause a variet of skin and health problems. Matted fur does not allow for proper air circulation to the skin which can cause hot spots or infections such as bacterial or fungal. Parasites such as fleas, ticks, maggots etc may lurk within the coat which can cause other skin infections.

Matted fur also pulls and blinds which can cause pain to your dog and can cause the skin to become inflamed and raw. Matted coats do not dry properly and can lead to further problems.

If your dog has extensive matting, we may have to make the decision to shave your extremely short, this may show signs of irritation and sores due to matting, a wet undercoat and a dirty coat. Due to mats being very close to the skin, there is a chance that your dog may be nicked and cut due to the clipper blades being so close to the skin to remove the matted coat. We will always take great care when shaving a matted coat but the possibility of injury or sores are a possibility.

The grooming process for a severly matted dog can be long, stressful and painful for the dog. Therefore, it may be neccessary for more than 1 grooming session depending on the severity.

Going forwards, we want to work with you to keep your dog mat free and will happily advise on how to take care of your dogs coat and what brushes etc you may need. Part of this process will involve regular scheduled grooming visits.

If your dog is severly matted and has to be shaved there will be an additional fee of £20.00 added to the grooming fee.

I, the owner, release Abigail Chipperfield from any liability associated with the above mentioned de-matting process and any medical problems that may be uncovered or occur as a result of the de-matting process. Should my pet require veterinary care during or after this process, I, the owner, agree to pay all the veterinarian fees.

Teeth Cleaning

Emmi-pet teeth cleaning is undertaken using an ultrasonic brush that omits no sound or vibrations. It is used to remove tartar build up already present in your dog’s mouth or as a preventative to stop a build up from occurring.

We will check all of your dog’s teeth in an introductory session to confirm they are suitable for the cleaning process. Wobbly or damaged teeth cannot be cleaned. They will be at risk of falling out or being damaged further from the pressure. If they are found our staff will recommend a visit to the vets for tooth removal. They can become very uncomfortable for a dog, and removal is the safest option for them. Your dogs behaviour will also be assessed to ensure they are suitably comfortable with the process.

It is important to understand that to begin with weekly sessions may be needed to remove the plaque from your dog’s teeth. If its left longer then it could become an ineffective process. Once the majority of plaque has been removed then a longer time can be given between cleans, to instead become a preventative to further plaque build-up.

Just as humans should have their teeth brushed regularly, so should dogs. 80% of dogs over the age of 3 have some sort of gum disease. Brushing is the best defence against this.

Please sign if you are happy for us to clean your dog’s teeth, with the understanding that this could take up to several sessions depending on the condition of the teeth. You are also signing to confirm that you are happy for us not to undertake the clean if we find wobbly or damaged teeth, or your dogs behaviour is unsuitable for the process.
