How it began
Meet the dog that launched a business
We adopted Louie in July 2021 and, as a Cockapoo, knew he would need regular grooming. I went on a one-day course to learn how to groom him myself and instantly decided that grooming was a career I wanted to pursue.
I started to groom dogs for friends and family, and shortly after enrolled in a full dog grooming course to become a fully-qualified dog groomer. I qualified in 2023, and shortly after opened Pooch Trims and Treats.
Louie's legacy
In May 2025 Louie suffered a slipped disc – IVDD. Initially it looked like he’d just got a sore back, but as he started to lose the use of his back legs he was referred to a specialist vet and after an MRI it was discovered a disk in his back hadn’t just slipped but had exploded, doing a huge amount of damage to his spinal cord.
Sadly he developed Myelomalacia and a few days later we had to say goodbye. He passed away peacefully on a blanket on the grass outside the vets with his family beside him, having wolfed down his final meal of a bowl of delicious chicken.
We have a picture of him on the wall in the salon as a reminder of why Pooch Trims and Treats was created, and his regular haircut, frequently requested by customers for their doodles, is now known as a “Louie Special”.

Abs takes time to care for my anxious Ollie when grooming him, he hates being wet and having his nails trimmed! He’s a tricky customer but Abs takes this in her stride and puts his needs first! Ollie hates being groomed but loves Abs 😊
